Today my mail box seemed to be full of the non personalised junk. 7 items of different sizes and color but not a single handwritten personalised correspondence for me. As I sorted over those plain printed envelopes I realised that what I was especially looking forward to was that highly personalised hand written letter from a close acquaintance. Later I began to think how much less complicated e-mail have made staying in touch. Email addresses make everything quick, even instant, and I don’t have the fuss or inconvenience of looking for an envelope, stamp or posting. You have a thought or idea you need to share and you can just whisk off another simple email note to your friends. Almost like having an ongoing chat. The thought then occurred to me that if that is the way I keep in touch with my friends as well as family then possibly this is occurring to a great deal of people. But those same people that I have lost touch with over the years are very likely to be active on the e-mail event as well. This could end up being a terrific way to restore old acquaintances if you could simply lookup their email address. Then I could just lookup their email address rather than locating their new postal address. I could up date my e-mail address book precisely like I did my outdated address book. As we all know practically 1 in 5 of us move each year and continuing to keep our address book up-to-date can be very time consuming. I emailed my friends later that morning about how let down I was with my heap of junk mail and how I had keenly looked for that handwritten letter. This conversation went backwards and forwards for a while until someone stated that e-mail address look up had in fact got her back in touch with friends she had lost contact with over the years. Apparently she had obtained someones e-mail addresses via an online reverse lookup directory. She typed their name in and back came their email address with a confirming address and phone number. She now conducts regular people search email addresses for her friends and family. And so that is my project for this week. I'm writing out a list of people I would like to get in contact with once again and I am going to give it to her and see if she can come up with their email addresses. Possibly I’ll start with six? These hand written letters that include just about all the latest enjoyable news and activities in
their lives. The types you rip open and battle with the handwriting. Having to read numerous times to absorb
all that delicious news. When I realised that I get fewer and fewer of these kinds of personalised
letters in my life a feeling of disappointment came over me. I am so much more dependent on email messages to
stay in contact with good friends and loved ones.
